David Sinclair, NAD and NMN Supplements

Update: February 2024 — List of 13 supplements and drugs that Dr. David Sinclair takes for boosting his longevity.

Update: March 2023 — Dr. David Sinclair credits four habits that have made his biological age a decade younger. These include: supplements, intermittent fasting, less stress, and exercise. He now eats an entirely plant based diet.

Update: January 2023 — An important new paper from Dr. David Sinclair and his team at Harvard concludes that loss of epigenetic information causes mammalian aging. There is a loss in the cell’s ability to read its original DNA, so it forgets how to function. The team calls this the information theory of aging. And in a new Harvard interview, Dr. Sinclair states that the first person to live to be 150 has already been born.

Update: December 2022 — The US FDA recently announced that NMN can no longer be classified as a new dietary ingredients (NDI) supplement. This means that it is not allowed to be sold in supplement products anymore. However, the enforcement of this ban seems to be nonexistent at the time of this update. Edit: Amazon bans NMN for use as a dietary supplement as of February 16, 2023.

Update: April 2022 — In his interesting new Lifespan with Dr. David Sinclair Podcast, a recent episode covered “NMN, NAD, NR, Resveratrol, Metformin & Other Longevity Molecules.

Dr. Sinclair recently added Spermidine to his protocol; became vegetarian (while still fasting and eating just once per day); lost 15 pounds; and entirely quit alcohol. So we now know that Dr. David Sinclair’s current supplement list in 2022 includes the following:

  • NMN (1g per day in the morning with yogurt).
  • Resveratrol (0.5 mg per day in the morning with yogurt).
  • Metformin (1g per day at night).
  • Statin (for cholesterol control).
  • Spermidine.
  • Vitamin D3.
  • Vitamin K2.
  • Quercetin.
  • Fisetin.

In fact in December 2023, Dr. Sinclair mentioned that Resveratrol and Fisetin (both SIRT1 activators) induce the proliferation of hair follicle bulge stem cells. This in turn promotes hair growth.

Most importantly, the February 9 , 2022 podcast covered hair loss and grey hair in detail. It seems like the doctor trusts the studies that tout the benefits of laser hair growth devices and PRP.

Update: June 18, 2021 — New episode of David Sinclair on the Joe Rogan show. Besides NAD and NMN, they also discuss intermittent fasting.

Note that NAD stands for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide . And NMN stands for Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN).

Also make sure to follow the developments of MIB-626, a NAD+ precursor that is currently in clinical trials.

David Sinclair, NAD and NMN Updates

Update: April 22, 2021 — NMN improves muscle glucose metabolism per new study.

Update: April 2020 — A new paper from China concludes that NMN is a promising molecule for therapy of various diseases. Likely via the targeting of NAD+ metabolism.

Update: January 14, 2020 — Dr. David Sinclair is participating in a Reddit AMA on January 14th from 4-6 pm EST. Official link. He will cover NAD, NMN, NR and resveratrol supplements. I hope someone asks Dr. Sinclair about his 80-year old father’s hair quality (the latter takes NAD supplements).

A recent interview with Dr. Rhonda Patrick is also worth a watch. AS is this Dr. Sinclair talk at Google in 2019.

Joe Rogan Show

Update: In September 2019, Dr. David Sinclair made yet another appearance on the Joe Rogan show. Besides discussing his new book “Lifespan” and NAD plus NMN, he also talked about metformin in greater detail. He also discussed HGH, rapamycin, caloric restriction and fasting for longevity. On a related note, make sure to read my past post on TA-65 and Telomerase.

Update: In January 2019, Dr. David Sinclair made an appearance on the Joe Rogan show. He discussed NAD and other supplements in there. Also, in a recent Linkedin post, Dr. Sinclair said that his own regimen and NMN dosage was pretty simple: “I take 750 mg of NMN every morning, along with a gram of resveratrol and 500 mg of metformin.”

Joe Rogan and David Sinclair
David Sinclair discusses longevity, NAD and NMN supplements on the Joe Rogan Show.

I first mentioned Harvard University’s Australian professor Dr. David Andrew Sinclair in several posts in 2016 and 2017. At that time, he presented some groundbreaking findings regarding anti-aging research in relation to increasing declining Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD or NAD+) levels in aging humans. He is also renowned for his lab’s research on resveratrol. Make sure to also check out Dr. Sinclair’s AMA on reddit.

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD)

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD or NAD+) is a cofactor and coenzyme that is found in all living cells. Levels and bioavailability in humans decrease with ago. In December 2019, Dr. Sinclair posted a link to new research on real-time NAD biosensors.

NAD versus NAD+

Note that NAD and NAD+ are not exactly the same thing. The latter it the oxidized version of the former. It is also written as NAD+ via the superscript in technical articles. Time magazine had a lengthy article on NAD+ in 2018. The NAD+ co-enzyme is largely synthetized through NMN.

NAD versus NADH

NAD+ and NADH are two different forms of the coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). NADH is the reduced form of NAD, while NAD+ is the oxidized form. NADH stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydrogen.

Dr. David Sinclair states that his team does not recommend people taking NAD precursors, since they have not yet been formally tested for safety.

NAD+ Supplements

However, on Amazon, it looks like NAD+ pills can be purchased legally, and they seem to be a form of Vitamin B3 (brand name Niagen). A company named Tru Niagen also sells them directly. A company named Alive by Nature also sells sublingual NAD+ and NMN online. Dosages can vary for most of these supplements.

Elysium Health is another popular company selling NAD+ supplements under the name “Basis”. The US FDA approval process for a new NAD or NMN related drug is extremely lengthy and expensive. So most companies are instead focusing on supplements.

Best NMN Supplements

While NAD itself is difficult to administer directly to humans, its precursors — nicotinamide riboside (NR) and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) — are promising natural compounds to test in humans.

MNN supplements such as the one on the right are especially popular online and at GNC. However, make sure to read customer reviews in detail to make sure that there are long term benefits. Some people might just be experiencing placebo short term benefits. NMN supplements can come in pill, tablet, capsule and powder forms.

Nicotinamide Riboside

Nicotinamide riboside (also called Niagen) is an alternative form of Vitamin B3. It has been touted to reverse grey hair, wrinkles, hair loss and various other signs of aging. Thorne Research makes a popular combination version of nicotinamide riboside with resveratrol and cofactors. Tru Niagen also makes popular NR supplements.

Also see this article on Nicotinamide riboside (NR) vs. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN).

NAD and its Precursor NMN

Human trials for both NAD and its precursor NMN have been underway in recent years. This will allow for more conclusive evidence in regards to both benefits and side effects in the near future. For now, it is wise to exercise caution when it comes to NAD and NMN supplement related potential side effects.

In regards to side effects, some cancer cells depend on NAD+ for sustained and rapid growth. So rather than increasing NAD levels to live longer, one may need to decrease them to fight cancer.

Dr. David Sinclair has formulated a capsule version of a precursor to NAD+ called Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN). This precursor is a naturally occurring compound that is found in small amounts in fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, cucumber, avocado and edamame.

David Sinclair, Resveratrol and Sirtuins

Dr. David Sinclair has all the credentials of a reputable and brilliant scientist. For well over a decade, he has promoted the benefits of resveratrol, which is found in small amounts in red wine, grapes, berries and other related fruits. Resveratrol switches on the well known anti-ageing gene Sirtuin-1. Both NAD and sirtuins are necessary for healthy aging, longevity and DNA quality.

Update: November 2021 — Resveratrol (RSV) may promote hair growth.

Dr. Sinclair has conducted significant research on how sirtuins are modulated by endogenous molecules as well as pharmacological agents such as resveratrol. Other areas of anti-aging research in which Dr. Sinclair has participated include senolytics and caloric restriction.

However, many of Dr. Sinclair’s peers accuse him of being overoptimistic and impatient. Not always a bad thing in the hair loss world, where we typically have the opposite situation. The resvertarol angle has had some hiccups over the past decade and Dr. Sinclair seems to have shifted his focus to other anti-aging research in recent years.

Dr. David Sinclair and NAD News

Yesterday, Dr. David Sinclair’s work on NAD and its anti-aging properties was back in the news in a big way. There are some very fantastical points made in the article, with the most striking being:

  • Dr. Sinclair is using his own NAD molecule. He has supposedly reduced his biological age by 24 years after taking the pill.
  • David Sinclair’s father is 79 years old, and has been white water rafting and backpacking since starting to ingest the molecule a year-and-a-half ago.
  • Dr. Sinclair’s sister-in-law is now fertile again after taking the pill. This despite that fact that she started to transition into menopause in her 40s. (My note: I assume this implies that she is in her 50s now).
  • Potential increase in human lifespan to 150 years of age.
  • The pill leads to a decline in age related hair loss. (My note: Ironically, I find this to be the most believable of all the above fantastical claims. Even though hair loss is as yet almost impossible to cure in most people. New hair growth in bald regions of the scalp is especially difficult.
  • Human trials still two years away, but Dr. Sinclair aims to release the product into the market in five years.
David Sinclair Companies

Dr. Sinclair is the co-founder of a number of biotechnology companies (Sirtris, Ovascience, Genocea, Cohbar, MetroBiotech, ArcBio, Liberty Biosecurity). He is also the founder of Life Biosciences LLC, a longevity startup. And he is a scientific adviser to many companies, including InsideTracker.

Note: make sure to not confuse Dr. David Sinclair and Dr. Rodney Sinclair (who is also from Australia). The latter is a well known dermatologist and hair loss expert, who I have covered a few times on this blog.

Edit: I posted links to some critiques of Dr. Sinclair earlier in this post. A reader also posted this new one that is worth a read.

  1. Aw sweet! We can now live to 150 and still not have a cure for this crap.

I’m 72 hours of fasting down – bet restriction is the way to gain hair.

    1. Very interesting but seemingly another rewrite of the same article I’ve read 100 times. The propecia decision is still lingering and I can’t take it. To bite the bullet or go bald? I don’t know.

      1. Do it now, I did it and nothing happened. Don’t be stupid. Please please please, don’t be stupid. Worse case scenario you quit and that’s it , good case scenario you keep your hair.. Besides, you are not going to need your d without your hair anyways

      2. Don’t know about the hair but unless NAD caused a placebo effect lowering my heart rate and blood pressure this is one of those rare instances when the product is amazing. True Niagen is on amazon and the 5 star reviews out number all the rest combined. After 6 months my blood pressure is better than 120/80 and heart rate is in the low 60’s!

        1. How long have you been taking OMG? Any benefits? I took True Niagen for over a year, the only benefit was weight loss…which was the loss of $$$ in my wallet. Expensive with no perceived gain.

      3. I started taking finasteride when I was 22, and I don’t think it helped too much. I stopped taking it in Nov 2017.

I’ve found that topical finasteride/minoxidil combo works just as good and without the sexual side effects. I use Follics FR10 (contains bimatoprost) and FR12 topicals. Follics used to be called Polaris, and I started using their products since 2014. The only unwanted side-effect I get is increased body hair growth. I have noticed that the bimatoprost has given my hairline follicles more pigmentation.

I’ve also started micro-needling, and taking supplements called Advanced Trichology DHT Blocker and FoliGROWTH Ultimate Hair Nutraceutical.

      4. same here, driving me crazy, the same cycle over and over, almost confident that I should start finasteride and somehow end up reading some random comment on a forum where someone describes some horrible sides and then I just quit the idea, some time passes and again can’t even look in the mirror and convince myself that it’s the only way, start reading on forums and again I read someone’s post describing some horror finasteride sides and get scared

      5. Don’t get wound up by everyone saying to just bite the bullet. I was also in doubt about taking finasteride, which I eventually did for 2 years. However, the mental sides I’ve got were not outweighing the fact that I did kept a lot of hair while taking it. I’ve started taking it in September 2017, and stopped taking it since this September this year. I was coping with a depression paired with a lot of brain fog and slurred speech. It was no fun anymore, and must say I feel much more clear-headed right now.

Don’t get me wrong, because finasteride did what it had to do for me, which was keeping the hair I stil had and then grow some, but my mental state was killing me. I’m aware this is personal, but it’s possible. Just make an informed decision before. Good luck!

  2. “Available in 5 years” … LOL why is it always 5 years away? … OK anyway. If its a new drug you need full clinical Trials which means many years and not just starting in 2020 and available in 2023. But if its not the allready known Supplement then why not just buy it now? Obviously they do a minor Change in Formula or delivery Method and ask for more Money.

    1. have been taking tru niagen for four months and hair growth is visible….even in very front. Never even thought about hair regrowth with this product but i have it.

    2. The human clinical trials on NMN have been underway for months, in Sinclair’s lab as well as studies at Keio University and University of Washington. The article is specifically talking about new techniques for organ regeneration which are set to start in 2020. Not sure why that is so hard to believe. What Sinclair really said ? Who knows. Follow him on twitter for the latest. The interview was paywalled for an Australian publication and probably massively distorted by the tabloid press.

  3. @admin: What happens with new treatments for MPB? Any new news? Samumed, Polichem, Histogen and Follica in phase 3. Follicum is in Phase 2b.

  4. Who was it on here who claimed to find a doctor in nyc to presribe avodart? I can’t find a dermatologist or hair specialist who will prescribe it.
On that note, the same guy mentioned the doc also prescribed him hgh for hairloss. I’m interested to know how that worked out.

  5. @Joe Johnson. My doc who is not an endocrinologist, but specializes in Bio Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, wanted to put me on a very low dose of HGH to combat low T. But, warned it could speed up hairloss! I got spooked and decided against it. It seems to be a pretty contentious area of medicine. Just a thought..

    1. HGH is likely to cause hair growth. I run HGH 5 IUs daily and my hair hasn’t looked this good in years. Most docs will put you on 1.5-2 IUs daily which will also help.
      Tons of other benefits too:
      -better mood
      -improvement in skin
      -repair of old injuries
      -helps with fat loss
      -helps retain muscle
I honestly feel like I started looking 5 years younger within a few months of starting it. Gook luck!

    1. It could be true. They measure certain biomarkers related to age. Interestingly, studies using this technique have discovered those who look young for their age, actually are.

I’m 59 and can do 100 pushups in a single set. Then again, I look way young for my age. I take True Niagen, but haven’t considered it for hair loss. I haven’t seen any hair regrowth. I’m not sure if it’s working, but I can tell you, 5-days-a-week doing high-intensity workouts and eating an organic vegetarian diet have me feeling like a teenager again.

It’s crazy, I’m the same weight as I was in high-school, and I have a similar level of energy. The craziest thing of all is, I eat like crazy, and I don’t gain weight, because after turning all my fat to muscle, my metabolism massively sped up. I feel like I’m sitting on the biggest secret in the world, diet and exercise will make you feel 10 to 40 years younger if done properly. Study after endless study shows it to be true, but 99.9% of people are too lethargic to get started.

The thing is, without upregulating your metabolism, you will not have the energy to work out. So you have to suffer for a couple of months before you have the increased energy to stick with the program for the rest of your life.

      1. Lose the cow milk and eggs and you will get even healthier as plenty of science shows those are both detrimental to health long term.

  6. Sinclair: I see this laid out in my mind, every step. But it’s happening faster than I imagined–it’s taking 10 years instead of 20 years.

Interviewer: When will it be ready for humans?

Sinclair: This will impact humans within a decade.

    —That was 2007.

And this from 2007… *[Sinclair’s] company has developed a supercharged version of resveratrol, called SRT501*

Fast forward to 2010 —> The company suspended the study after several patients developed kidney failure. They have “no further plans to develop SRT501.”

    1. I think scientists just try to outdo one another in bold claims rather than pragmatic solutions to problems you see this everywhere.

  7. PolarityTE announced that they will be presenting at the National Clinical Conference of the American Professional Wound Care Association, between September 6-8. they will present an ‘abstract’, “Regeneration of Full Thickness Hair-Bearing Skin” don’t know how detailed this abstract will be though.

  8. Judging by interviews Sinclair is the most conservative of all the longevity researchers too. Reversing menopause is a pretty sci-fi claim surprising to see a Harvard person saying that. I’m curious whether George Church is orbiting around this whole thing.

I’ve finally got topical fin mailed to my house it’s been 1 year! Finally found a product, linked my dermatologist prescription..finally! I’ll be taking pics.

  9. The increase in lifespan in mice on NAD supplements is 3%. Multiples studies have confirmed there is essentially no increase and all benefits are to health span.

  10. It’d be a miracle if these claims were legit, but as usual, it’s 5 years away. It’s always just far enough away to not be imminent. It’s amazing how that works!

  11. @admin or anyone else who knows this:

I’m sure I read somewhere that Hasson and Wong have stopped their topical Fin prescriptions, or stopped administering it. Was there a post to this? Can’t find it.

Does anyone have info as to why?

    Cheers

    1. @gbh…I don’t think Hasson and Wong have stopped with their topical fin prescriptions, it’s just that they are not available to US patients and cannot be shipped to the US………..based on my inquiry to them. I believe you can get topical fin 1% with a prescription thru Medical Wellness if you are interested.

  12. I have tried Hasson and Wong’s topical fin!
It has strong sides just like the pill. Their supply is also super inconsistent. Sometimes you have to wait 3 months to get a refill and they recommend buying it fresh —- I would find another supplier !

  13. Just waiting for the phase 2 results from Shiseido to blow these have-a-go chemists out the water.

Should be any ….. minute ….. now :-)

  14. To all my brothers thinking about taking Propecia I strongly advice you not to, which is what I’m doing by simple logic:

Propecia’s best case scenario -> You regrow a bunch of hair and maintain for years.

Probable case scenario -> You maintain for a few years without regrow. Sometimes it doesn’t even have much effect at all.

Bad scenario -> Sexual side effects, gyno, things that might require surgery or administration of testosterone or other annoying/expensive treatments.

WORST CASE SCENARIO -> Literally game overing your life, becoming numb emotionally, living with constant brain fog, losing your cognitive capabilities to some extent and even short term memory, anihilation of your sex drive for good or for a good amount of years, etc., etc., etc.

I urge you all to hold onto your minox + keto like your life depended on it (maybe it does!) and to keep going strong, the cure is CLOSER THAN EVER. I am 100% sure than in the next year or two we WILL have the results of a study or clinical trials that will be the cure we have all been waiting for.

I don’t know about you, but I rather be bald for a year or two until the cure comes out than, imagine if, you had the worst case scenario in Propecia and the cure eventually came out. You could get back your hair but for nothing at all since now you have a whole other host of issues to deal with that have been studied 100000x less than hair loss.

Don’t play yourself. Stay calm. Try to stay strong. We can do this brothas.

    1. This happened to me. Lost morning erections within the first week. Also came with soft erections and low sex drive. Running Clomid helped but it still took 2-3 years after getting off it to feel normal again (more or less). I run HGH now. that helps. I will consider cycling TRT as well. Feeling awesome, wanting sex, and being buff are easily just as important as hair.

    2. Your best case scenario chance.. 88%
Your worst case scenario chance 0.2% (I doubt its existence)

Going bald is Hell , my father told me that God hates 3 men ( short men , bald men , poor men) , going bald is disfiguring , don’t listen to this guy take the risk , going bald = impotence, besides propecia work for decades not just few years.

    3. Oh great, yet another “everyone will get sides from fin” guy who bases his conclusion on what he thinks. On fin for 20+ years, Dut for the last 3, no appreciable sides…as the real data states. Guess I’m just abnormal. Seriously dude, get a hobby, go meet a girl, surely you can find a more productive way to spend your time!

    4. I took finasteride 25 years ago, and my hair grew like crazy. It started out thin and wispy and grew super thick and dark. I was only on it for two months, so the little hairs looked like eye lashes. Interestingly, even the hair on the back and sides of my head grew thicker and darker.

Unfortunately, my left nut ached, so I stopped taking it, and all the new hairs fell out. I’ve been waiting 25 years for a good topical DHT inhibitor. In a few more years, it probably won’t matter, because I won’t have any hair left to protect. The way my luck works is, they’ll come out with a perfect topical DHT inhibitor right about the time I reach NW7. :)

That said, it’s better to live long and healthy with no hair than live short and unhealthy with hair. My hair looks like crap, I’m old, and all these little 20-somethings at the gym lust after me when I show up for my daily workout. If you want women, get in shape and do interesting things.

      I’m targeting living until I’m 95, and I expect to still attract 20-somethings at 70. :)

    1. I agree. It’s not just good for your good cells, it’s also good for cancer cells. Make an informed choice.

On another note, cardio exercise has been shown to increase telogen length (I.E. extend the life of your cells). Weight training has been shown to have no effect. It’s about the increased blood flow. It rejuvenates your cells (body and brain). I do high intensity exercise, which consists of going as hard as you possibly can for 10 to 20 minutes a day. I cant believe the results. 10-minutes of torture per day will make you feel like a teenager again, but you have to eat right to make it happen.

  15. Very interesting! I’m not surprised that advanced hairloss treatments are being coupled with anti-aging treatments and experiments. Aging hair, even in the absence of MPB, is still undesirable and noticeable. Of course we’ll want youth, full heads of hair.

Thanks also for posting about NAD. I was considering taking this especially after Mark Hyman, M.D. recommended it, but I’m still hesitant.

    1. Buy it directly from Tru Niagen’s website. If you do the 6-month at-at-time purchase, it’s way cheaper than it is on Amazon. I take resveratrol as well, but it probably does not get absorbed, so it’s more than likely not doing a thing. I’ll probably dump it when I run out.

  16. Note “age-related hair loss.” MPB is caused by exposure and sensitivity to androgens, so it’s age-related in the sense that it starts at puberty and progresses from there, but it’s not age-related in the sense of being tied to the general process of aging.

I know it’s not the same thing, but FWIW, a year of NR has had no detectable effect on my hairline. I was at 2.5 or so when I started, so I’m not really asking for miracles.

  17. Since reading this site, I’ve read about treatments and supplement options that I hadn’t heard of before.

Consequently, I’m wondering if there are any others that I could try. I’m about to order:

    -True Niagen
    -D3

    Anything else worth mentioning?

Also, Nizoral is one of the Big Three. I’m going to buy that, too. Is it the anti-dandruff shampoo with the white and red box?

    1. Don’t waste your money. Just buy a cap or a beanie.

I use Nizoral because every time I come back from Africa I return with a nasty skin condition called petriasis versicolor. All other meds failed for years, but after using Nizoral for 2 weeks it had gone. But for hair loss, nothing. Useless.

  18. Hey guys need some advice. Looks like Nizoral 2% shampoo brand name is on back order here in USA. Generic is available but i have never tried it. Anyone use generic Nizoral 2% shampoo after using brand name? Does it work well? I was thinking of using brand name over the counter 1% shampoo until the back order completes and they start selling the original 2% again.

    1. MJones….I use 2% and have been for about a year….. I only use it once or twice a week. I honestly don’t know if it works for hair loss…. I do know that I had a crazy Itchy scalp before and after using 2% its gone. It’s definitely not stopping my hair loss but perhaps it’s slowing it down

  19. FYI Frequency Therapeutics just updated their website to remove some pages and add a pipeline page. Unfortunately, that does not include anything for androgenic alopecia. The update, in addition to FX-322 (regrows ear hair for hearing loss) now adds Multiple Sclerosis as a 2nd pipeline item. Previously, Frequency had listed androgenic alopecia has an area they were actively studying given the similarity to their ear hair candidate. This doesn’t mean they have abandoned a PCA treatment for androgenic alopecia, but it means that their candidate for MS will become the second major focus. This is most likely because their new chief medical officer, left a company that was working on a treatment for Parkinson, and he saw PCA as a more viable platform.

  20. As one of many players in the longevity field, I’ve followed Dr. Sinclair over the past decade or so (just received his book, have not read yet). I do believe at some point we will be able to control aging, just not sure if it will be in my lifetime. Funny thing I tell myself is how in the world can we solve aging if we can’t even find a way to cure MPB! Anyway, I’ve taken NMN for over a year and still have had hair loss. I’m currently taking Dutasteride (4x per week) and Propecia (3x per week) as well. NMN certainly has not done anything for my hair, and I’m not sure really anything else. I think Dr. Sinclair is sincere in his approach and a brilliant individual. However, there are other potential breakthroughs in aging research outside of his scope of work that hold much more promise.

    1. I asked Dr. Sinclair twice on Twitter about whether NMN grew hair for his bald dad (who the doctor has inferred has become younger at age 80 due to NMN). Dr. Sinclair did not reply, and I doubt NMN and can regrow scalp hair :-(

  21. I wonder if an NAD+ IV push would have more of a benefit than the pills. There’s an anti-aging clinic near my home in SoCal that offers them for $1000 per push.

    1. Not worth it unless you’re super rich and have money to burn. NAD+ will do absolutely nothing for your hair. It might, however, keep you a little younger for a little longer. However, diet and exercise will do FAR more to ward off aging, and it’s free.

  22. Anything mentioned on Rogan’s show is bro-science snaake oill. He and his partner in crime, Aubrey Marcus, peddle ridiculous, ineffectual junkk like “Alpha Brain” through their scaam company, “Onnit.” No respectable researcher would touch him with a ten-foot cattle prod.

  23. Not a huge fan of Sinclair but genuinely appreciate how much attention he brings to the field of life extension. George Church is the man who I think will make the most contributions to LE and age reversal in this decade. Unfortunately he is already in his mid-60s so he’s somewhat on the clock as it were.

It grows difficult to keep stressing about hair loss when we appear to be seriously progressing on this front. I’d take another decade of shaving my head if in 20-30 years I’d be among the first generation of human beings to go from aging to youthful. Imagine how insane it would be to experience such a thing. It’d be the single most incredible accomplishment the human race would ever achieve. And of course there is the chance we will be living well over 100 years if we manage to reach longevity escape velocity.

That said, I still want hair as much as the next balding person. I do think we will all be taken care of in the 2020s. There’s just too much progress being made for me to think otherwise.

    1. appreciate if you could share more details for my study on anti aging and hair loss and grey hair reversal research

  24. More comments on your most recent update would be appreciated, Admin. I don’t want to be another usless pessimistic voice here, but I am extremely sceptical on Sinclair. Bizarre cooincidence, however, that I closely follow your updates and only in the past 2 days (re-)-discovered Sinclair. I believe there is a very convincing (more convincing than Sinclair) critique of “Basic” conferming that is about as usesful as vitamins you buy in the grocery store, and the concept of calorie restriction/intermittent fasting is by no means unique to this man’s work. Nevertheless I think that hairloss and regenerative medicine cannot be separated. Also to consider would be studies on various microbiota and their influence on hair growth. PS I’m not some “chair science bro” as Yoda so aptly names them I’m just a dude shooting some pointers to aim for *synthesis*.

  25. I’m actually on a web session for clinical trials….learning the processes. Should I ask the M.D about hair trials? Lol

  26. I’m sceptical of Sinclair. The way he talks about his father being super healthy as a result of Taking ABC is very unscientific (sample size of 1). I’ve listened to the bro science Rogan podcasts and Sinclair contradicts himself on his regime often e.g length and type of workout, how long he fasts for etc. From what I can see Basic is a scam; the company are in dispute with the manufacturers of its key ingredients, one of which may be harmful.

    1. Del, I agree that it’s correct to be skeptical until there are clinical results and not just anecdotal stories from the people selling the product. Supposedly, even the mice in the tests don’t live too much longer (just act younger longer). Some doctors have said NAD boosters throw off a delicate balance of other important epigenetic chemicals in humans, which does more harm than good. Anyway, the jury is still out.

I did try Tru Niagen version, but it gave me a weird numb feeling in my mind (not necessarily good.. almost a slight disconnect). It also made my heart race at night, so I didn’t sleep very well. It could all be psychosomatic, but I quit regardless. It’s unproven and not worth sleep irregularities!

      1. Interesting Slick, I bought Tru Niagen a few months back but so far haven’t used it. Probably won’t. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  27. From what I can see there is very little on hairloss in his recent AMA. I also think he doesn’t really have a clue about hair loss specifically.

    1. Was hoping he would discuss his father’s age reversal with the supplements, and effect on his hair. I could not join the IAMA at that time unfortunately.

  28. ” we have been able to reset and reverse the age in parts of the mouse we are now in the last few months working on entire tissue and the whole mouse. Yes, It’s freakishly exciting” -Sinclair discussing his team’s work happening right now at Harvard. The video is on YouTube I can’t find it in my history from a month ago.

“It’s actually easier to reverse aging than it is to freeze aging.” -Church

Who cares if it’s 10 20 30 years off. Who cares! It couldn’t be any more amazing.

      1. Scott
Did you go back to your hair system now that the winter is back?
How is it working for you with all of your training?

        1. It’s fine. If I am doing heavy weight lifting I will put an ice pack on my head after the set to prevent sweating.
Otherwise when it gets to week 4, days before the re-glue, it will move a bit, but it stays on. Then at week 8 it’s a new system. If training outside I tend not to sweat as much.

For this reason I would not recommend it to those who live in humid climates until a better bonding agent is invented, or those who work in humid conditions like kitchen staff. But I suppose if you worked in a kitchen you would struggle to afford one anyway. No offence.

        2. Hey bro l work in a kitchen and lm extremely offended xD jk
Thanks for your answer, you see l ask bcs l like cardio but l cannot always train outside so l was wondering how much does it limit you

          1. If I was you then, I would get one of those systems you tape on rather than glue, so after a week of some cardio you can take if off, clean your head, shave it, etc. It’s a pain to start with, but so was shaving before you had to get used to it. Then in summer just go bald anyway, because even those with hair have a trim in summer unless you are some sort of hippie.

      1. Your comment Wallace is exactly why I want Replicel to win the race to a hair loss cure.
The revenue can fund their other research product lines; skin and tendon regeneration, etc, which if successful will extend the physically-capable lifespan within people’s overall lifespan. So if you live 80 years you get 80 years, not 70 years, then 5 with a mobility scooter, then 5 more hooked up to a machine breathing like Darth Vader.

        1. I agree Scott. However it would be kind of cool to actually revert from an old man to a youthful man. Something straight out of a sci fi movie. I kind of want to experience that, so if it is several decades away then perhaps that will be a small perk.

That said, I’d love for folks currently in their 60s to be able to live another 50 years in youthful bodies. So the sooner the better.

If I had to take a guess I’d say we figure out robust age reversal sometime in the mid to late 2040s. I expect huge progress in this field over the next 20 years. That’s roughly around the timeline Aubrey de Grey has posited, although he tends to shift his prediction every half decade or so.

    1. Immediately after my hair transplant, I was given similar pills so that the moved follicles would have every chance of surviving in their new home. The course lasted a month and it was thrown in with the treatment so they would not have done so unless they thought it necessary.
But once the follicles are established they have no extra effect. For combatting hair loss; useless.

    1. Mjones I skimmed it and in no way am I study or patent expert. I did not dissect it fyi. It has the standard million of possibilities that could be used for hair regrowth. However minox and maybe latanoprost seem to stand out. Looks like dermabrasion then hydrogel daily for about 11 days. Followed by minox and maybe latanoprost as a 2nd option for non minox people, but it doesnt seem like latanoprost is a sure thing. I saw something about needing more studies done on it.

      1. A lot of reading and definitely millions of possibilities but this December update of their patent does add to Follica’s claims that they have been refining the heck out of this process giving the sense, if you are inclined to be optimistic, that this might represent a significant improvement in treatment …….at least for some. I did read at [0127] that “In an embodiment, the treatment regimen is repeated multiple times to build up hair density over time.”………….so potentially a cumulative effect. I believe I also saw that they believe this to be effective for not only androgenic alopecia but for age related hair loss……for those that might be affected by both.
But still no update to their timeline showing that they have begun Phase III.

  29. I did about 2 years of NAD + Resveratrol and I noticed zero effects. Quite the costly subscription for imperceptible benefits.

  30. NAD supplementation absolutely works for hair health and regrowth. Ive been doing IV’s of the stuff once every few weeks for the last 6 months in addition to a 500mg daily pill. Grey has also diminished. Ben Greenfield just did a podcast last week on grey hair look it up mentions NAD but also NAC, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Glutathione to help scavenge the hydrogen peroxide from your body, the cause of greying hair. Good luck.

  31. I don’t think this guy is legit. Too much into himself. Also, metformin just been linked to birth defects.

    1. I was rather indifferent to Dr. Sinclair and his research as it always seemed very theoretical to me, yet scientifically sound.

But this is a proper roast. Another grifter exposed?

  32. Hi Admin, I don’t have Twitter, could you list the 13 supplements of Dr. Sinclair that you linked above? Thanks in advance.

    1. 1) NMN.
      2) Resveratrol.
      3) Fisetin.
      4) Quercetin.
      5) Spermidine.
      6) Metformin.
      7) Vitamin D3.
      8) Vitamin K2.
      9) Low-Dose Aspirin.
      10) Omega-3 Fish Oil.
      11) Alpha Lipoic Acid.
      12) Statins.
      13) Coenzyme Q10.

Not sure if this is a current and verified list as it’s from a third party. Dr. Sinclair eats mostly plant based and seems to change his supplement regimen every year.

I would never add the aspirin. It can cause serious bleeding and anemia in some adults after long-term use. New government guidelines on aspirin use are much more stringent.

      https://www.hairlosscure2020.com/polypharmacy-medication-overload-dangers/#Aspirin

      1. Thanks for the list. It’s not just the aspirin, some of these are rather obscure.

I do take D, K , Magnesium and Omega 3 – just because the scientific evidence is overwhelming. I used to take ALA and NMN, but I don’t know, I was not convinced anymore.

It’s very hard to gain obvious effects from supplements.
