Before and After Finasteride and Minoxidil Photos

While we await a true cure, for those who have not lost too much of their hair yet, taking the combination of Finasteride and Minoxidil can often result in excellent results. For those who have already lost a lot of hair, with rare exceptions, modest regrowth and maintenance are unfortunately the best you can hope for with these medications.

My recent post on collecting Dutasteride testimonials made me realize that I should write this post for people who are highly skeptical of Finasteride. Dutasteride, if approved to treat hair loss, will certainly be superior to Finasteride (albeit with higher rates of side effects).

On this page, I will post links to before and after photos on various hair transplant surgeon’s websites of patients who have had good to great before and after results from Finasteride and/or Minoxidil treatment. Most patients take both medications (brand names Propecia and Rogaine, respectively).

    1. hi,
First, you can try to use Minoxidil Foam which does not contain a certain ingredient which makes most of the troubles.
Second, I don’t recommend you using Minoxidil but rather Finasteride – since most people don’t persist on the treatment with Minoxidil and the moment you stop you lose all the hair you gained and some more..

      1. This isn’t true. Hair already present when starting does not become minoxidil dependent meaning the only hair that falls out is the hair that regrew. It doesn’t make remaining hair fall out any faster.

    2. Well…finasteride only inhibits DHT (primary factor for hair loss) and if you want hair re-growth you need something like minoxidil…so it will work as 50%

  1. spain, in my opinion, Finasteride is a lot better than Minoxidil, although also more likely to cause side effects due to its systemic inhibition of DHT.

    1. Hi,
I am 22 years old. I’ve little frontal baldness and little on crown. And the baldness is going on.
I want to use minoxidil and finasteride but I am worried about the above comments, because they causes to loss sexual power. So what should I do now? I need your opinion.
      Waiting for your reply….
      Thanks….!

        1. Hi Zahir you need to discuss with a doctor and then decide, plus read all the studies on the internet to see risks versus benefits.

Minoxidil does not cause any sexual side effects.

      1. Zahoor…sexual effect is only with finasteride but not with Minoxidil…and that sexual effect is too only one percent. You can stop finasteride whenever you want to and you can restart the course

      2. Dont worry about about sexual loss before you tried it. i always experienced sexual gain the first few days after staring finasteride or increasing the dose, then gradually returning to normal but not below normal. A lot of users experience the same. The bad with fin was it gave me a permanent reduction in sperm volume.
Dutasteride even better for me, the increase in sexual ability is persistant, 10 weeks and still counting. No negative sides, and many other dut users also report having no bad sides. Worth a try i’d say.

      3. Minoxidil doesn’t cause any sexual side effects but finasteride may have. I am using Minoxidil since 1 year and having some hair regrowth in temples and crown but it may not give you a teenage hairline or a full density unless you mix your treatment with finasteride.
Finasteride may have extremely low chances of side effects and most of the users succussfully use it as to maintain a full head of hair…

  2. if they could just fine tune dutasteride to only have a local effect… dayum, that would be monumental.. i personally think anything which affects the fertility of a male or female will be left untouched by the medical industry since we are overpopulating the planet.. hence why we only found out about finasterides side effects after forum member spoke up.. they want us infertile…

    1. Well sorry to say, youre wrong. I had permanently reduced sperm volume from fin but still was able to bang a bun into the oven with some chick. Now im on duta and has never been better, only good sideeffects and the sperm volume reduction from finasterid has been partially reversed. I love dutasteride, has regrowth in totally bald areas but even without hair growth dutasteride has just enough positive effects to warrant continued use for me.

Side effects, especially on finasteride, are very individual, give both fin and dut a try before finding hidden agendas.

  3. I used fin for a year and minox for a year before that. Saw little results with minox and then after a year on fin, my scalp went to s***. Developed scalp pain, pimples along hairline, huge shed of hair. Had to quit and am waiting to recover still after three months.

    1. I have to agree with mr Jeremy below (Ron) that minoxidil might have screwed you up. I advice people to stay away from minox, my minox story was, chronologically, “yes its working, wait is it working?, I think its working, its working a little, maybe its working, its not working, i hate this crap”. Long term minox-only success stories? None.

  4. Hey admin,

Can and should I use Minoxidil for temple point regrowth?

I am restarting minoxidil after 4 or 5 months of not using (I started phasing it out since I thought that propecia would keep the ‘minox gains’) I lost some gains, especially on the hairline, but fortunately I did not go below my baseline.

    Penny for your thoughts? :)

    1. I have heard mixed testimonial for temple point regrowth with Minoxidil. If you have lost all your hair there, probably not worth trying. Also be careful that you do not put in on your forehead area by mistake!

  5. Thinking of starting propecia and minoxidil. My hair line isn’t receding, its just been thin for years every since I grew it out back in high school! I work with a doctor and spoke to him about possible side effects. I’m a little worried though to tell you the truth. Is it all worth it? Thoughts please.

  6. I’d be careful using minoxidil. I had a decent head of hair but decided to try it as a way of keeping my hair thick as I get older. Worked great for 6 months, I then had a 6 week break, started using it again only this time the results were a disaster. Had a reaction, really itchy scalp with significant hair loss. I continued taking it for 6 weeks but realised I had to stop. It’s left me with a shed that’s lasted for 7 months & I have significantly less hair than before i started I feel as if my hair is dying off slowly now.

There’s no significant hair loss in my family although one of my Grandads did thin & receed in his late 50’s. Don’t think my hair will recover now so considering finasteride

  7. Hi, I m 21 years old .I had a thick hair but from last two years there has been a lot of hairloss and I noticed my scalp was visibleand I was undergoing male pattern baldness .So I got a head shave hoping that I will get back all hair again but it didn’t work. I tried all the home remedies like applying Onion juice ,coconut oil, amla oil and various other stuffs and it did reduce hair fall but it didn’t regrow any hair and my scalp was easily visible. I consulted a dermatologist and he has prescribed Minoxidil and finasteride lipid solution 1ml/day and finasteride 1mg tablet but after using it hair fall has increased a lot than usual and I m worried. Is this a positive sign and will I ever get back my lost hair and most importantly no one in our family has baldness my father has much thicker hair than mine. Please tell is there any chance if getting back my hair?

    1. Hello mr..shedding of hairs for 6 to 8 weeks is common with minoxidil…its a sign that drug is working…minoxidil induces old and telogen hairs to shed to give way for new hairs whic are thicker in diameter…it takes minimum of 4 months to perceive results…so dont stop medication..continue with patience …keep faith in your doctor prescription..dont go for online queries and remedies…if shedding continues abnormally even after 6 to 8 weeks..consult your doctor to seek remedy…dont seek remedy from online…rather seek advice from your doctor as he knows your case and suggest you
