9th World Congress for Hair Research

Last year, I wrote a post about the 9th Congress for Hair Research that will take place in Miami, Florida this year from November 18-21. At the time, the website for this congress was already up, albeit a bit barren.

The most interesting thing that I saw and mentioned in last year’s blog post was the fact that the three people in charge of this conference were all women despite the fact that men suffer from hair loss far more frequently than women. Especially when it comes to major (high norwood scale) hair loss. In any event, it is no longer surprising for me to read about female hair loss research and I am grateful for each new scientist.

9th World Congress for Hair Research: “Reflect, Rejuvenate and Regenerate”

I am certain that this will be the most heavily attended Congress for Hair Research to date, just like the recent 23rd ISHRS Meeting was the most heavily attended one to date. Worldwide hair transplant procedure totals have also been breaking new records every year recently as middle class populations with expendable incomes increase (and as hair loss rates in general also increase in my as yet unproven opinion).

Among the interesting things that I have seen on the current version of the Congress website include:

  • The Final Program Book. A must skim through.
  • The theme/slogan of “Reflect, Rejuvenate, and REGENERATE.” It is encouraging that they have capitalized the word “REGENERATE” and this hopefully portends favorably to the focus of the conference.
  • While the topmost Platinum level sponsor (Women’s Rogaine) is a huge disappointment since they are not selling any new hair loss technology or product, it is encouraging that Samumed is a Silver level sponsor and Kythera Biopharmaceuticals is a Bronze level sponsor. Proctor & Gamble is a Gold level sponsor and their bio seems to imply that they are there to primarily promote their shampoos (which are not even among the best hair loss shampoos in the world).
  • Also encouraging that Shiseido and Kerastem are contributing sponsors.
  • The number of hair loss researchers presenting at this Congress seems to be a record high, although this remains to be verified.
  • A majority of the big name companies and researchers (Christiano, Cotsarelis, Garza, Jahoda, Tsuji and many more) are presenting at this Congress.
  • The next 10th Congress for Hair Research will be in Japan, the current global epicenter of hair loss research and clinical trials due to that country’s favorable new laws.

There are way too many interesting presentations to list here separately. Topics ranging from PGD2 inhibition to Wnt/β-catenin signaling to progenitor cells to wounding are all covered. Cell based regenerative therapies are not surprisingly well covered. There are a few presentations on JAK inhibitors and alopecia areata from new research centers. I am also interested in the update on topical Finasteride product P-3074 as I would love to stop taking oral Finasteride next year. An update on Samumed’s topical drug SM04554 is also something to look forward to.

Which presentations are you looking forward to the most?

  1. Another great post! Thank you admin.

I look forward to Histrogen. Hopefully they will present new results and some kind of news:)

  2. Hi admin do you think topical finasterude in conjuction with pill form could help me gain the effectiveness of propecia again. I used propecia for 14 years . Year 12 the results quickly weakened and the drug seems less powerful in maintaining my hsir. Been losing ground since the past 2 years. If I apply topical finasterude do you think it can kick start thr effectiveness again stop my hair loss progression like it did the first 12 years?

  3. Hair loss rates do increase, yes, you’re right cause it is a dominant gene. Therefore, the tendency is to increase in population, always!

  4. Today, almost every middle aged man presents some degree of baldness, from thinning hair to Norwood 10. Just look around.

  5. The Lotion form of Tofacinitib will be the 100% Cure. I just know it. The few facts illuminate it as the 100% (un-natural cure since it is a drug).

The World of Hair Congress is gone as far as I am concerned.

Since 2016 is the Year I get ALL my hair back with a natural hairline from using Lotion Fofacinitib.

Just waiting for a human study to confirm that it works and is safe (and it must be much more safer than the pill form).

Late 2016 Me with ALL my Hair, see below. I look good. I can’t wait:)

  6. Unlike last year, no video or audio is allowed at this year’s conference. It’ll be a big ask for HelloUser to cover all this scientific talk, get the gist of it and do it the “pen and pad” way. Defo needs someone else at hand to help. Anyone from Miami / Florida attending?

  7. lol TOF and RUX are NOT going through human AGA trials dude.. their doing live AA trials right now…

No one is doing AGA human trials of RUX/ROF that’s a fact.

Your dead set on 2016 seeing results from human AGA male pattern clinical trials in TOF/RUX ? Your going to get your hair back this year? Sorry dude I think someone needs to throw cold water on your hope to save you from future sadness, get real man.

Show me they are doing male AGA trials on humans for TOF/RUX …show me… I bet it’s going to take forever for them to fart this 3 week trial out.. watch…..

    1. It is EXTREMELY Pathetic that they do not have at least 10 rat trials for Tofac/Rux Lotion on Male Pattern Hairloss. After decades and millions of dollars they have zilch. And I mean Zilch.

However, I am looking for a Lone Wolf someone who does one trial on a few rats for AGA for confirmation and someone somewhere at sometime is going to do it. I am just hoping it is in 2016.

I feel the pain, but I believe. The Tofac/Rux reactivates hair follicles it is THAT SIMPLE. Whether it is AA or AGA type hairloss I believe it turns on the hair follicle to grow again. That Simple. We are done. The Solution is Here.

Do not become too cynical due to all the Monoxidil type Cures. Decades of being ripped off is over. The Lotion grows hair and the pill worked on AA – 100% hair FACT.

The Tofac Lotion is Going To Work for Male Pattern Hairloss – That Simple.

      1. Nasa.. I once supported your stance since it makes sense.. But ure going off the hook brother.. Big time.. Ure just spamming that its the cure 100000% and that we’ll all get our hair back in 2016…get bloody real man! Come on!

You have no proof yet and theres a huge contradiction in the tone ofyour statements… ” this is it, the cure just you watch jak inhibition cures mpb. ” followed by… ” just need comfirmation by someone..”

Stop acting like a child.. Test it on yourself if u preach it SO MUCH. Besides the risks of these drugs are well beyond what hair loss does to you mentally.. These drugs make ure immune system weak as fuuuaark. And can give you cancer.. Dont gimme the topical bs that ot wont cause sides cause its topocal.. EVRYTHING goes systemic..it’s the beauty of skin.. It ABSORBES rhings

  8. why are we even supposed to get excited about the congress if video and audio isn’t allowed in? really?

no pictures, no news, just anecdotal here say we get through hellouser if he makes it.. damn man ..

is anyone not annoyed by this? Were all going to be singing the RUX/TOF gospel waiting for invisible HLcure Jesus to come back until were all a year down the road freaking out screaming WTF

  9. Really, the cure for hair loss is not going to come from researchers looking at the issue. Seems like no treatment ever comes from that, for some reason. It comes from some researcher who is looking at something else. I am hopeful, there is some cancer/asthma/rhumatoid arthritis researcher out there that stumbles upon it. Hair loss researchers can continue to diagram the shafts and follicles, etc., but that is not where the cure is going to come from. I just hope every day that some kid from Stanford/Harvard/Yale/Columbia trips over the answer. Let’s go!

  10. By the way^ this really shows that researchers really have no idea how to treat hair loss. The treatments we have came from treating other things.

  11. Admin,
This one’s for you. A very interesting piece on gene editing in the New Yorker
    http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/11/16/the-gene-hackers

Quite astonishing the leaps and bounds they are making in this field. This is what you get when you have the brightest minds at work
In this hair loss malarkey, we have to contend with mediocre, second-rate so called “researchers”. I am sure if we had the likes of this Dr Zhang working on AGA, we would have a cure by now.

  12. I think this congress is overated. It’s very unlikely that something new come from this congress. Each company will just make a presentation of their activity for the last few months and maybe some goals for the coming year, nothing less nothing more.

    1. I agree, Weaver. Just an opportunity for everyone to get together in Miami, drink, and have a little fun. I doubt that there will be any important ideas shared that will give any real hope. It is actually kind of encouraging that they will not allow video/audio. Otherwise, I would think the hair congress is basically a selling/hype tactic by these companies. The fact they want to try to keep things secretive gives me more hope for legitimacy.

      1. I agree with both. The importance of these congresses, in my view, is for us to get more acquainted with what’s going on. Having Hellouser attend it gives us a chance to ask some questions to the researchers, questions that we want to make but we have not access to them, normally. Off course, they may not answer them, but at least it’s a chance.

  13. We’ve had a Woman’s Scorn go against and solve baldness (AA Type). She solved AA type hair loss with Rux/Tofac. That woman is the only one who succeeded and grew 100% hair. Now she is working on refining it to make it even better and safer.

Now with her rat studies she has shown that Tofac Lotion works even better than the Rux pill. Much Better. We are so incredibly close, just need a few rat studies to prove it and human studies to confirm it. Actually just the rat studies after that we all will be the human trial.

Still say I think, 2016 Tofac Lotion will be the 100% Cure.

      1. The Emperor has no clothes… Dr. Christiano has solved AGA hair loss with 100% growth and natural hairline with Tofac Lotion – I believe. Just waiting for conformation.

Do not be so jaded otherwise your head is going to be left out in the cold;)

The Wright Brothers cannot fly; The World is Flat; Hairloss is incurable anytime soon. Tofac Lotion will be the cure, plain and simple. It simply stops some enzymes from switching off the hair follicles.

2016 is the year It Is All Over. No more researching and hoping for Monoxidal results to be better than just peach fuzz.

I’ll have all of my hair back by the end of 2016 and it will only take 3 weeks. All evidence points to it being right.

        1. I see it as following. There is something (perhaps an enzyme or Dna mutation) that glitches the immune system and the body (scalp) reacts to it with multiple threats trying to counter what it sees a foreign and malicious. Hence, itching bla bla bla etc.

Hair follicle on the head is programmed to grow for many years. Babies are born with follicles all over our body, some of these follicle will not grow terminal hair for whatever reason (if Darwin is correct lol), some are even before birth terminal or pseudo terminal and other are triggered to grow thicker hair later on in life. This clearly shows that miniaturization is also take place in reverse. Pubic hair is not suddenly create it was always present but not activate to be a terminal(or different ) type of hair. We know are sure that miniaturizations hair can regrow and are not dead. Miniterminal is bidirectional.

We possible can draw a conclusion that due to immune system (Maybe glitch or whatever cause) the body signals the once terminal scalp hair to shrink and become like other follicle like once pubic hair was. You’d be suppose that we have follicles even on places barely noticeable, check body arms and legs or even your cheeks.

When the immune system is suppressed, hair will go back to its original state. AGA like AA has to do something with the body shutting if off. I don’t need to know how and why the mechanics are but I have always advocated that Xeljanz or tofa might work because it basically interupts the faulty attack by the immune system. That’s why propecia and duta nor minoxidil will ever work!!!!!

    1. But it may not work so well.. There’s no guarantee yet man, calm down a little!

All of us want that it works, that it be the so much desired cure for AGA but it won’t be it just because we want it so much, unfortunately that’s not how things work. Dreams don’t come true just because we want it, you know that.

We’ve got to wait before celebrating it. It’s too early yet to call victory.

  14. To me, Christiano has more merit than Cots… At least she has done something for a sub-sect of hair loss sufferers.. What has Cots done for anyone? Including himself.. lol

    1. Christiano did nothing so far, she just discovered something by accident with RUX and TOF and was not intentionally looking for the cure. Cots is trying to understand the hair loss mechanism to find the cure, got it now ? Also who discovered about the PGD2 and the rest of the proteins ? Yes the king

  15. How is that the cure? He hasn’t cured anything. Really, no idea what he has done. If he had the cure, he wouldn’t be losing hair. Christiano has helped people with AA. Cots hasn’t helped anyone… How can you disagree with that?

    1. Yes Cotsarelis hasn’t cured anything…What a shame…Follica is alive…? I’m not sure about that…
This Congress will be awesome….The Game-Changer is near for all of us. AGA is a disease with important psicological effects. We need a better treatment than Minoxidil and Finasteride.
Taking medications/drugs every day is not good for the organic homeostasis…

Greetings. Great blog Admin. All of us WANT a new treatment.

      Paul.

  16. Look at Dr. Christiano’s patience – 100% Head of Hair with natural hairlines. She looked for the right drug through research after finding differences between bald and nonbald heads and used the latest JAK Type drug to grow hair. As it turns out, BENO from 1980’s a JAK Type drug had two male pattern baldness men regrow all of their hair. Coincedence – I say not.

I believe Tofac Lotion is the cure – All Hair Back In 3 Weeks.

Do not say what I believe does not matter. Then explain how two male pattern bald men regrew there hair when they were on a JAK Type arthritis drug? Back then they did not really know it could be the drug, that was very dangerous, and could not test it out as they were not looking into hairloss but a cure for arthritis.

  17. My gut tells me Cots will bring an effective hair losd treatment protocol to market very soon. It will be that wounding plus topical protocol that will grow back hair. It won’t be a cure but it will grow thick hair. He is the only one who discovered pgd2 pge3, wounding regeneration, issued patents on his discoveries, has a up and running company fir over 10 years developing this solution and is one of the top doctors in the hsir loss world. Christiano since 2001 has done jack shit. She said in 2001 that in ten years she will be able to clone hairs . LIED about that! She just happened to stumble upon jak inhibitors by accident and now is stating it might work for mpb. Even if it does work she won’t say anything. Remember that hedgehog gene hsir loss treatment. Supposedly that shit worked and grew mpb hsir back in 2006. She said tumors occurred and it was never spoken of again. For some reason they stay tight lipped on mpb cures and only show pathetic treatments like latisse and rogaine.

  18. It fits, it all fits. All the facts point to JAK type drug Tofac can regrow 100% hair and it has worked. Funny how it matches to historical cases where people regrew their hair. I guarantee you Dr. Christiano never heard of those two men who regrew their hair while on BENO. Yet her JAK Type drug and as it turns out BENO are the Same Type Of Drug.

I think Dr. Christiano has already tested it on AGA skin that has been transplanted onto rats and knows it will work. Just my guess.

  19. The Greatest Discovery for Us is starring us in the face yet some refuse to believe. And yet, it is here now already FDA Approved. Just need more tests for male pattern hairloss.

  20. I just had an interesting thought. Since AGA is a genetic disease, as well as AA, couldn’t someone have both types at the same time (as in both genes)? If so, then some of the people who have AA will also have AGA. As soon as more people with AA start curing themselves using tofacitinib, and none of them grow hair back with a receding hairline, we’ll know it cures AGA as well. Since AGA is pretty prevalent there should be a good portion of AA sufferers with it as well. So if that is true, we wouldn’t have to wait until they tried it on AGA sufferers. Just speculation though.

    1. I thought the same thing, what if someone had both AA and AGA.

It would then be very sad to see them only grow hair on the sides of their head.

    2. Excellent point. My confidence grows daily in thinking fixing the JAK/STAT pathway with a topical will work as a full cure for AGA.

  21. The Cots love is amazing to me. I wanted to believe in him, but the way he talks, and the lack of results screams of a gentleman that is grasping at straws with a failed concept. I can give you a treatment… but I need $5 million more… For a cure.. I need 20 million… You either know how to do this or you don’t man…He is merely trying to keep his company alive, but has nothing. No product or results to show for his “work.” If he a strong concept, wouldn’t we have seen some results by now? Photographs? Wouldn’t that be the best way to get more investors? Where are his research papers that document his trials of humans growing hair, or reversing miniaturization??

  22. At this rate, wouldn’t it be awesome if Follica at least updated their website, and had links that actually worked properly when you click on them? lol

  23. Qub1 your theory is goid. However knowing our luck jak inhibitors will only grow back the horseshoe pattern of mpb hsir , hsir on thr sides and bald scalp haha that is how our luck works. Having AA and Mpb fking sucks!

  24. Right! It’s so illogical to think that Cots is doing anything more than posturing. How easy would it be to raise $20 million if he had a mere photograph of a subject that had developed even just a little more hair-growth than Swiss-Temples? The potential to profit off the investment would be enormous…It’s not there guys.. But not all hope is lost. A lot of other people are working the problem.

        1. And what’s with the avatar of Swiss Temples? The avatar is a photo of joachim Peiper – a german nazi SS officer.. quite a monster responsible for a certain massacre in Belgium.

I say Swiss temple is a loony (not a scammer) ..a complete and utter one.. the photos don’t show anything.. whatever way I look at it in Photoshop I don’t see any new hairs in the temples … he had “months” to prove it’s working… and it isn’t working.. end of the story

  25. Ddog I lost hope. They can’t do it or hiding an effective cure. Either way we are screwed. My proof is the past 25 years of no treatments better than rogaine.

  26. Sure. You can lose hope, but it is hard to ignore that there seems to be more emphasis on the issue than at any time in the past. Maybe I am wrong. I haven’t been dealing with this long. Can a long time sufferer tell us if there seems to be more emphasis on the issue now than 10 years ago?

  27. You know what concerns me about Christiano’s research? AA patients seem to go through cycles where they continue to grow and lose their hair again. Is there any concern that some of these patients may have regrown all of their hair anyway? I hate to be a downer. If you look at the sites on AA, they mention that there is no treatment. They don’t even mention Christiano’s findings… Kind of unnerving.

  28. Ddog as a long time sufferer the emphasis for hair losd was just as large in 2001 as it is now and the only mile stones they have discovered is pgd2, wound healing, and plucking hair to grow more hair lol. All the stem cell discoveries for hair losd is stuck at the same state as it was in 2001. I don’t expect anything from these researchers

  29. The problem with pgd2, wound healing, and plucking is that really, from a practical standpoint, doesn’t seem to mean anything, either. What has it done? Even if it did work somewhat, how can you have any semblance of a normal life if you have to sit up at night, gouging your skull and applying ointments for some vellus hairs and using a sun lamp a couple times a week to burn your scalp… lol Seems crazy… and you will never be able to keep pace with your actual rate of balding.. Just seems very hopeless.

  30. guys please stay optimistic and calm. 2001 one we haven’t 25mbpm internet connections we haven’t homemade 3d printers we haven’t touch mobiles with internet connection 15megapixel camera etc. we are in the top of the icemountain some milimetres away to from the hair flag rising on top of it. excuse me for my english stay calm and pray with me for the sooner cure

  31. Yoda everything has progressed except for hsir loss treatments. I appreciate your enthusiasm bit I am a realist. We are still at least 10 years away from anything that will help us. That is sad truth. Nothing changrd. They can have all the 3d printers high speed Internet and tekeportation, but we will still have rogaine like result treatments. It’s depressing and I need to stop coming on this site. It’s in our genes to be bald. If they couldn’t figure out how to clone a fking hsir follicle the past 20 yrs then we are doomed. They can grow teeth, vaginas, kidneys but not hair. Sorry guys but they purposely don’t want a baldness treatment or cure better than what is available..good night. It’s Friday night and I am going out to find some hot ass to bang out than sitting here posting about what if treatments that won’t happen

  32. c’mon.. if you have nothing new to tell or some important doubt wait a little.. it’s getting really boring all this endless repetition about there will never be a cure, 5 years, 10 years, we need a new treatment, they blocking a cure, the cure exists but they hide it, c’mon.. what are your age, are you kids?

  33. look how you are behaving. You are adults already, or wouldn’t be balding… so, for Christ sake, be more rational and cut all this bs. WTF.

  34. I was not saying there won’t be a cure. I was merely trying to say that those who are hoping for Cots are wasting their time. As a novel solution, what do you guys think of 3-d printing for hair? Not as awesome as growing out real hair back, but would any of us care if it looked real, and could be put into our scalp to look exactly the same?

  35. When all doctors and researchers say 10 years over and over its hard to be opyimistic. If a treatment comes out in 10 years shit even five years all of our hsir loss will be in such bad shape. Norwood 4 to 5. The new treatment won’t be good for us. We will be the past and the new generation of early balders will benefit. I need shit NOW the latest 2017! Anything after that is hopeless. Just rogaine results

  36. I’m in my 30s btw and mature for how I am thinking. Believing there is going to be a cure in 5 years in childish julian . If that jak inhibitors worked for mpb christiano would have advertised the fk out of it! She wouldn’t start with AA trials. She would fast track a mpb trial and release that shit ASAP to be rich.

    1. No- AGA will not be covered by insurance yet! And mostly likely insurance companies will say it’s a cosmetic.

Whereas, AA is a medical condition already and most likely be paid by insurance

  37. I see it as following. There is something (perhaps an enzyme or Dna mutation) that glitches the immune system and the body (scalp) reacts to follicle with multiple threats trying to counter what it sees a foreign and malicious. Hence, itching bla bla bla etc.

Hair follicle on the head is programmed to grow for many years. Babies are born with follicles all over our body, some of these follicle will never grow a terminal hair for whatever reason (if Darwin is correct lol), some will even before birth terminal (pseudo) and other follicle are triggered to grow thicker hair later on in life. This clearly shows that miniaturization also take place in reverse. Pubic hair is not suddenly created it was always present embedded part of the skin but becomes a terminal hair only after puberty where once slinky smooth (perceivable) skin was. We know now for sure that miniaturizated hair can regrow and the follicles are not dead. miniaturization is bidirectional.

So, We possible can draw a conclusion that due to immune system (Maybe glitch or whatever cause) the body signals the once terminal scalp hair to shrink and become a small not terminal growning follicle- like once pubic hair was(bald to the eye). You’d be surprised that we have hair follicles even on places barely noticeable, check body arms and legs or even your cheeks. Look at your back as you’re bald on top every hair lost on your head grows back on your ass lol.

How do we fix this. By suppressing the immune system locally on then scalp (saver than whole
Body), hair will go back to its original state with natural cycles and type of hair it’s meant to be -thick terminal. AGA like AA has to do with something that makes the body shutting if off the growing of hair. I don’t need to know how and what the mechanics are but I have always advocated that Xeljanz or tofa might work because it basically interupts the faulty attack by the immune system. That’s why propecia and duta nor minoxidil will ever work!!!!!

Before I was going bald I had phantom pains on my scalp like a staticky stinging pain, accompanied with flaky skin ; those were the exact place were it is now bald. Now that it’s bald it’s gone, well gone as in now I’m experiencing that in other spot and as expected that’s where the Thinning is taking place

  38. Fbalding84, I dig the analyses. I hope it is correct. I, too, feel the irritation on the scalp. It seems common in those of us who are thinning! I think it is this irritation that made some back in the day think that their hat/beanie was causing their baldness. They probably thought their hat was irritating their scalp.

  39. Dr. Christiano mentions in one of the articles online that “The surprise was when we started using the drugs on alopecia areata patients, when we used them topically the hair grew back much faster and more robustly than it did orally.” That means that topical JAK inhibitors have already been tested on humans. Another article mentions at the bottom, “It remains to be seen if JAK inhibitors can reawaken hair follicles that have been suspended in a resting state because of androgenetic alopecia (which causes male and female pattern baldness) or other forms of hair loss. So far, all the experiments have been conducted in normal mice and human follicles. Experiments to address hair follicles affected by hair loss disorders are under way.” The wording of that paragraph leads me to believe that Dr. Chrisiano and colleagues have begun pilot studies testing JAK inhibitors in humans with androgenic alopecia, which is of course, a good thing.

    1. – These fascinating JAK inhibitor drugs have a multi-faceted effect on hair follicles. Here are some descriptions of their method of action from the published study:

JAK inhibitors stimulate hair follicles out of the resting phase into the growing phase. They also show the ability to elongate the growing phase.

JAK inhibitors activate the Wnt and Shh signaling pathway.

JAK inhibitors cause the activation of hair follicle progentior (stem) cells.

Tofacitinib (a JAK inhibitor) promotes inductivity of dermal papillae cells.

Tofacitinib promotes hair growth by positively affecting genes within pathways that are crucial to hair growth. For example: TGFB pathway genes, BMP pathway genes, LEF1, and NOTCH pathway genes.

      1. If jak type drugs have an effect on wnt, shh pathways, activating of progenitor cells and genes they are crucial for hair growth, could jak or other drugs like samumed they activate wnt, shh pathways, grow hair by people with scarring alopecia. This disease kills hair follicles.

  40. Admin once you commented that the main cause of AGA is lack of progenitor stem cells in the balding area. I think the jak type drug like tofa can stimulate those progenitor cell and can back our lost hair. I think this may be the real cure. What do you think ?

  41. Watch these JAK off inhibitors lol actually grow back our hair but the side effects even topically will be to severe they won’t pass fda. That would be a kick in the nut sack. One thing for sure is that I won’t play around with immune system to get back my hsir. One little common cold could end up killing you

    1. I think you are right. Maybe the drug as a cream is the cure BUT maybe they dont releas it because of the side efects. Dont get too hyped just wait for it. We all should have our hair back, i hope we get it back ASAP.

    2. Why not they pass fda ? Pill form already passed fda then why not topical form ? Do you think topical form will be more dangerous than pill form ? And I didn’t hear anyone who died after using tofacitinib. If you have exact info then please tell me.

    3. Ya mjones you are right. From wiki I learned that tofacitinib can make normal cell to cancer cell and can threaten our life by various simple virus infection. In 2011, four people were died by the treatment of tofa. I am really obsessed with this kind of information. I’m already Norwood 6 or maybe 7 at the age of 28 and doctor said I’m not the good candidate for hair transplantation for lack of donor area. Sometimes I think my life is finish here. There is no hope anymore.

  42. don’t listen to anything what Swiss says.. look at his pictures… ZERO results.. I mean ZERO.. the last one from november is just fuzz clumped together with oil.. that guy is shitting himself and can’t even make proper photos.. why do you guys think he has any results is beyond me.. the photos don’t really show anything!

    1. Im gonna wait for one more photo from swiss. I think hes legit.. But seriously.. That november photo was pathetic to say the least .. He must’ve laughed when posting it.. Its discouraging to see hes previous photos were way more poulated with hair.. This is what made kinda annoyed.. ” i’m close to my juvenile hair line, just need to let it grow”… Wow.. This guy needs to make a ghetto protocol to reverse his blindess…

      1. I hate hating on a fellow hairloss sufferers but … some people just don’t have it what it takes to stay objective and certainly don’t have the skills to compare two photos (talking about Swiss of course)

  43. @admin Will histogen be at this presentation? And where does it list the sponsors ? Extremely dissapointed that rogain is a sponsor

  44. Hi,
    1) does jak has an impact on wnt, shh signaling pathways, progenitor cells and genes they are crucial for hair growth?
    2) when jes, could jak grow hair by people with dead hair follicles after scarring alopecia?

  45. Just curious, everyone talks about JAK inhibitors yet no one has mentioned Brevillin A which a simple google search shows studies highlighting it as a strong JAK STAT 3 inhibitor and can be found in lotion form on ebay as lisea glutinosa shampoo and lotion .

    1. I bought this shampoo and lotion and have been using them for about 2 weeks now. I’ll let you know if it’s any good… nothing to report thus far.

  46. Anyone know about hairloss black book. Is it legit or fake ? They claim they have some guidance that naturally can block dht by proper diet. However is it really worked for someone ?

    1. I spent maybe 4k over 3 years with natural diet, the ENTIRE regimen on hairloss-research.org … didn’t do shit bud

dont waste your money.. … to be precise i did everything but a liver detox nothing short of everything but a liver detox which i don’t believe will cure hair loss because we would probably already know about it..

I could start a blog about how natural treatments dont reverse hair loss. Even today I still take artichoke, omega369/coconut oil, saw pal, soy isoflavones, ginko biloba, .. just makes me feel better but i know it aint doing shit

      1. Egghead – I like your determination. You are like me I go all out one million percent. The problem is there is nothing that can be done to stop hairloss and someone like me it is devastating. However, I think those days are gone that once it is proven Tofac lotion can cure AGA I will use me determination to find a way to get it and use it.

  47. Just to chime in as no one else has mentioned him in the comments. Luis Garza.

If I were at this congress and if I were that member of that HL forum attending this, I’d ask him about this:

    http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/interviews/interview/1001391/

Specifically the “we’re really excited about this” comment of his. It sounds initially like he’s on Follica’s turf but it seems Garza is talking about skipping the wounding part. A timeline for something like this or his thoughts on how soon this could potentially come to market would be my questions for him.

    1. It is great news but with caution. That she is stating that these drugs could solve many hair loss disorders but that also there were a few that were similar in the past but never worked out.

But we do have our BENO proof from 1980’s, and this really could be the solution: Tofac Lotion. It probably is definitely our best chance EVER to solve common hair loss. No gurantees but the odds are in favor of it. But if it does fail then forget about hair loss cure for anyone over 30 in our lifetimes.

Like I said above, it appears that Tofac Lotion solves many complex hair issues ALL at Once. Thus all these researchers doing research on one particular aspect of hair loss are gone.

  48. WAKE UP!

Do you not see the obvious? That JAK type drugs that have been proven to grow 100% of a person’s hair back. That the drugs, apparently correct Wnt, Shh pathways!

In other words, rather than these other scientists correcting one thing at a time and trying to figure out how to grow hair from various building blocks that Tofac simply fixes Everything at Once!

    Important excerts from an article:

So far, all the experiments have been conducted in normal mice and human follicles. Experiments to address hair follicles affected by hair loss disorders are under way.” The wording of that paragraph leads me to believe that Dr. Chrisiano and colleagues have begun pilot studies testing JAK inhibitors in humans with androgenic alopecia, which is of course, a good thing.

    1. No I don’t agree. That’s why they’re not making the claim that it solves aga. Tofa works different than just a simple hair cure. It works but not in that particular way.

  49. This is a repeat from my post above, thought too many might miss it thus I am reposting it.

  50. Admin, this is a little something I found regarding the arrector pili muscle and wether it can reconnect to the follicle. It’s from Hellouser.
We report successful establishment of mouse single follicular transplantation model and autonomous restoration of transplanted hair follicle piloerection in mouse skin. Transplanted hair follicles were responsive to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and formed proper connections with surrounding host tissues such as APM and nerve fibers, which in turn connect with not only the hair follicle bulge region but also the APM. These results demonstrate that the piloerection ability of transplanted hair follicles can be estimated quantitatively. This study makes a substantial contribution towards the development of transplantation therapy that will facilitate future functional regeneration therapy for skin and skin appendages.

Study here if anyone’s interested I didn’t bother
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22380609

  51. To the Admin – I told you 1 year ago that Tofac/Rux (with skin perturbation although I was wrong on skin perturbation) was absolutely going to be the cure for Hair loss. I still stand by that stand by that statement more than ever, even more confident now.

Tofac lotion is the cure for AGA hairloss OR if it does not work then forget about anything for the next 30 years.

I say yet again, Tofac Lotion is THE CURE NOW for us. We just need further testing from the scientists to get everything right, dosage, and co-compounds, frequency.

    1. Calm down nasa, you are too overexcited with these Jaks.. OK, they hold promise, but let’s wait a little before calling victory. Let’s be more reasonable.

  52. That is the main reason why I am not going to get it in the store.

I am simply going to my doctor once Tofac lotion is proven to work for AGA. That simple. Done. I expect by the end of 2016. And I really mean that!!!

  53. I have a silly question:

Based on the information shared, if the same Tofacinitib is the helping hand for AA and AGA, then it could be possible that the medicine(topical of course) to be released for AA be used(tried, in our case) for AGA, one it is out ? And if so, we might not need a separate wait period for AGA solution(to test, in our context).

Any news on the AA meds’ trial status ?

  54. Nasa you see like a very nice and posting guy which is great :) but please stop saying jak inhibitors will be the cure when it hadn’t been proven. Yes I know the guys from the 80s grew back hair but that could have been just a random effect they might have had AA with AGA . Btw this jak inhibitors might have side effects even topical that are lethal and destroys your immune system. Your dictor won’t prescribe this to you unless he is Dr. Kavorkian haha. Please just sit tight and wait for christiano says about jak for mpb

    1. https://youtu.be/6tPCqF0NmYE?t=1m44s

Egghead found this great video from Dr. Christiano. She specifically states that These Drugs maybe be able to treat many other types of hairloss besides AA type hairloss. Watch it for yourself several times.

I do not think she would have made such a statement unless she had some type of rat experiment that showed it may be possible to cure AGA. As she typically is slightly on the conservative side. This is a Wow Video. Thanks to Egghead.

  55. well nasa_rs .. if jaks help progenitor cells then it truly has much more of a shot than seti or anything else..

Tofac is much cheaper than Rux and apparently Tofac grew more 25% more hair on the mice..

The best part of this story is they don’t have to wait 2 years to see results just 3 weeks… so maybe that might ..might move things forward..

My only skepticism is how long it’s giong to take for us to even hear Angela Christiano utter the words “Were applying for permission from the FDA to run phase 1 clinical trials on men with androgenic alopecia ” meaning they have to wait months to what a year? for FDA to say “Ok kids proceed” then we have to wait months to what? a year for Phase 1 to finally finally say after long delays “OK were starting!” and then after 2 years OK! were done with Phase 1 guys! heres our results and then IF BIG IF it works with flying colors we wait another 2 years for phase 2 and 2 years for phase 3 and another 2 years for market approval.

Long story short I think Tofac has a good shot..I do, lets just say and pretend right now it is THE CURE the holy grail right? Still I think STILL it’s going to take 6-10 years just for it to be at your local wall greens . Your optimism is fresh but Replicel, Histogen, Dr. Cots … their all 10 years deep into false hope..

Here is Dr. Cots “The King” dont make me lmfao
    https://youtu.be/gaLaMBHIdBs?t=1m15s

  56. mjones met a few of the PHDs under Dr Cots… they laughed when he asked about a cure and told him wait 5 years for us to have some sort of stemcell treatment that is .. at best mediocre

  57. I disagree with those who say it will take 9-16 years to get Tofac Lotion. Dr. Christiano has said 4-5 years [AND that is if you wait for the final product and I am not waiting].

My guess is humans will try Tofac lotion THIS YEAR in a study. Remember this is different than before THIS IS ALREADY an FDA Approved drug. All these other drugs are years and years away from being FDA Approved but again Tofac is already FDA Approved.

    1. Adding, in fact I could in Theory get Tofac Lotion from a Doctor Right Now!!!

Those who know more about the medical rules correct me if I am wrong.

  58. Nasa don’t put that stiff on your head yet man. You don’t know the side effects it will have! You are not a scientist or researcher. Let christiano complete a phase 1 first. If it’s safe and won’t destroy your immune system then go ahead. Last thing you want is to not grow bacj hair and end up in the hospital because of a hunch thinking it will work

  59. I have one question for NASA_RS….what do you think about Tofacitinib? Is it going to be our final cure by the end of 2016??? :-) LOL….Bro, you are so boring and Stupid, please stop posting for few days, Weeks, years bro! Every second post is yours dude, from 200 comments, you have more then 50%, go away dude!!!

  60. Well said nasa_rs! We are with you but we have to be cautious…

We really want to have a new and effective treatment!

    Cheers.

  61. The cure is here ! TOF and RUX are the cure and they are going to work. We are going to get our hair back in 2016 finally and I will write a book about it. Finally guys we will get a prescription from a doctor and grow hair back but we only need a human trail and we done !!!!!!
Do you guys like me now and get some support ? ;)

    1. Everyone thinks that his thoughts are going to be right. I really hope that tof cream will be the cure as most of you say. My thoughts are that hair congress on the 18th of this month well tell us all that we want to know. Im dead serious that we will be disappointed in this congress. Or they are going to introduce a treatment like rogain but its more affective than treatments we have nowadays.

      1. Khourli, bro it is hard to explain what iu s reality to stupid people. I can bet that the news about JAK inhibitors is first news that this retarded Guys heard, and now they are so excited about it. Maybe it is…I would be happy, but it will Take a long time to test it…..stupid kids

  62. :-) nasa_rs you are new fresh hair looser probably…look, that is not a cure, who said that Ruxolitinib will cure AGA??? They didn’t test it on humans, they are not even close to start trials on human. By the end of 2016 you will be so bald and so disapointed. By the way, I have a great life, great Job and a lot, a lot of money, so much money that I can buy anything, but still I can not buy a new hair!!! That is a fact!!!

      1. Khourli, don’t even try…if you don’t think like them, if you don’t talk like them, you will be discarted. But you know what is reality, news about JAK inhibitors gives me some hope, I am excited but not overexited….it is a shame, i finaly find a great blog about hair loss with fresh news, but as always a lot of stupid post like “we have a cure”…

    1. Verdan.. You really are just a troll. This is a forum for discussion. You came out of nowhere and just attacked NASA for no reason. I doubt a successful man takes that approach. You have presented no evidence why you think Rux and Tofa will not work. We are all ears. Also, who cares about trials? We don’t need fda approval to use a medication.. Ever hear about avodart? People were using Rogaine well before FDA approval. As soon as someone tries it, and it works, people will use it. I enjoy NASA.. At least he is passionate. You, sir, are a pessimist with nothing to practical to add.

  63. Ddog….how much do you know about JAK inhibitors??? Ok, let’s do it in this way, I will buy Ruxolitinib for you and you will test it!? Deal???

  64. I have read quite a bit about them. If they are applied topically, they seem quite safe. AA patients have been using them for over a year now with practically no adverse effects. I am most interested to see what vehicle will be utilized

    1. Where is that topical formulation??? They are using it under medical control, diferent dose and formulation, you don’t know how to make a topical JAK inhibitor! Come on dude, just be honest and tell me would you rub that shit on your scalp right now, without any safety aproval????

  65. Also NASA seams to be a Guy who is so depressed about his hair loss and spend all day on this forum posting shit like “we have a cure” whitout any scientific proof, try to convice himiself and rest of you in something that is not true!!! Instend to use that time to read something abou it!!!

    1. Vedran – I am not depressed. I am someone who is action oriented I get things done. I do not wait around forever, as it will take 5-10 years to see JAK Type cure at a Walgreens.

I do not mind being to a small extent being a Guinea pig, like those who now have 100% hair, as long as it has initially been proven to be reasonably safe and Effective.

But excuse my excitement – We have had no hope at all forever and now there are guys who had almost 0% hair and now have 100% hair due to Tofac/Rux – I think that is something to be excited about.

I also know if JAK Type drugs do not work really forget about anything for the next 30 years. That’s why I am all about the JAK Type drugs, they are here, they are FDA Approved, They work for AA Type hairloss. And even Dr. Christiano clearly stated that they probably will work for many other type of hairloss including common hair loss. Bingo.

  66. Nasa, as well as others, have posted quite a bit of scientific evidence that indicates it does have a possibility of working… There is just as must possibility theoretically as all the work that is being done out there. It’s not a lock, but neither is the work being done by Cots. The work being done by Garza and RNA is extremely exciting!

    1. Ddog, please reply on my question, would you try it, would you rub it on your scalp if you could have it in your hand right now??? Without any evidence about safety???

  67. Thats my point. You should stop, a little at least, repeating things that were said more than 1000 times and think of something interesting to ask in the congress for example. Think of some doubts you may have concerning any of the treatments. Go after and see if you can find out something. You didn’t even know that AA follicles miniaturized. I asked that a couple of times, until Curious told me to do my own research and stop being lazy. Good advice, I thank him. Then I quickly discovered that yes, they did miniaturize. Then I found out that despite that similarity with AGA follicles, their connection with the Arrector Pili muscle doesn’t get lost, as in AGA follicles, and that alone may explain why they can be regenerated.

So, stop saying the same thing over and over, and be helpful the way you can be. Hellouser will attend the conference and the best thing to do is to think of good questions and doubts and send them to him. I myself don’t expect much of conferences, but it’s better than nothing and it’s an opportunity to present our doubts and concerns to the researchers. Let’s not miss this opportunity, then.

    1. Not so much another question for the member attending the congress but this is an interesting tweet:

      https://twitter.com/davidtharp/status/664891860951932932

I wonder what this presentation consisted of… interesting though. Hopefully Follica have some news soon. Congress typically doesn’t yield a lot of earth shattering stuff but with so much news this past year particularly around wounding…could be an interesting one.

    2. Julian, the arrector pili muscle may not be as important as the article theorized in regard to hair regeneration. If it were the end all be all, Swiss temples and the guys who had been bald for 30 years would not have been able to regenerate.

      1. It may be as well.. SwissTemples is not proof of anything to me.

What I take for a good reason to be doubtful is that 2003 study where miniaturized hair follicles implanted into mice skin regrew and became normal again, that in a mouse skin. That is more than enough to know that it is a reversible condition. I’d like to know if their arrestor muscles gaps were restored as well, if all the structure regained its normality. That is a doubt of mine.

        1. Since this study was before the one that observed the gaps, this may not have been observed. I mean, there may be no way to know now if the gaps were present before or after the implantation and restoration.

  68. Rogaine is the CURE hahah. I agree we with khouri, we must wait till after the cobgress to know what is real and what is actually going on. Btw the conference will be recorded by the committee organizing it so we will have videos of the presentation . They won’t allow attendess to have videos or pics taken

  69. Dark Prince they will for sure record the presentation. They document every congress . They just don’t want everyone and their mothers therewith their cell phones taking pics, videos etc and posting on YouTube without hair loss cobgress approval I’m 100%positive the hair loss cobgress will record the presentations

  70. An excerpt from Dr. Louis Garza’s interview:

Chris – Given you’ve made this discovery then, and you can supply these chemicals, including this double stranded RNA signal that is the stimulus for this. Do you think then we are on the path now to being able to provision a human with these signals to make good damage and could you, for instance, make a bald person hairy again?

Louis – Yeah. We’re really excited about this. And the very interesting part of this story is that we think that it’s, like a lot of discoveries, it’s already being used in ways we didn’t predict. For example, men and women who want to look younger and go for rejuvenation and visit their local cosmetic dermatologist, and receive laser treatment or receive dermabrasion, or receive micro-needles for rejuvenation of their facial skin. It’s very likely that the one thing that unifies all these very different methods of rejuvenation is damage, and that it’s by activating the same tall three double-stranded RNA pathway that people are receiving benefits when they go to their cosmetic dermatologist even now. So the exciting question that our work raises is whether we can reduce the damage we have to do by instead just directly giving these agents like double-stranded RNA and save people the suffering of having to go through these treatments. The other main application of this could be in scar victims. So, people who’ve had burns, for example, where we think by creating new hair follicles, we’ll be able to restore the skin to the way it normally is which is dense with hair follicles – even where we can’t see them, for example, on the face.

Kat – That was Louis Gaza, and he’s just published that work in the journal, Stem Cell.

  71. Funnily enough, this solution would act by activating or stimulating an innate immune response that naturally occurs in just some individuals. It goes against the Jak-stat inhibitors which on the contrary act by blocking an immune response in the case of AA sufferers.

  72. That case of the old bald man whose scalp was burnt and then got a lot of hair grow in the previously bald spot is a case that attests this phenomenon surely.

  73. I need to hear a big loud science-backed NO! (or maybe…yes?) to the question:
“Are JAK inhibitors going to work on MPB with no safety concerns?”

    1. edhel – JAK Inhibitors are FDA Approved. Are they safe? They probably are very risky but safe enough to pass FDA rules.

Dr. Christiano has clearly stated in this video (link previously posted above by Egghead).

      https://youtu.be/6tPCqF0NmYE?t=1m44s

She essentially states that these drugs in Lotion Form Could Work on other types of hairloss besides AA including AGA. Personally, I do not think she would have said that without some type of scientific proof (maybe rat studies on AGA) that these drugs could work on other type of hair loss.

The simple fact is, these drugs are FDA approved now, once they become available in Lotion Form assuming they do cure AGA then we will be much, much better off.

  74. Vedran you buy me Rux or Tof put it in my hand and help me find a way to transport it with a “vehicle” ethanol using a simple pestle and mortar i’ll put that shit on my head for 30 days on youtube.

I’m not scared lol. If my balls fall off i’ll post that up too and get banned from Youtube for ya too. that shits expensive and requires a perscription. Unless you get Tofac in which case it’s much much cheaper.

I just don’t know how to apply topically.

Yeah I was a human guinea pig when I was 18 to make money because I didn’t have any family support, not scared.

You wanna challenge me to that deal?

    1. Egghead – By the end of 2016 I plan to try Tofac Lotion, with doctor prescription, assuming there is a study that shows it works on humans and they hopefully will have one done by end of 2016.

  75. Seriously now, what is the new rogaine product that is coming out? I have more faith in that than anything else right about now

    1. Hi mjones, that’s my opinion. You can think as you want. I’m hopeful about jak inhibitors. Hope is the only thing to live where there is no cure.

  76. I think this congress is crucial.
If tsuji starts the clinical trials, maybe will have a cure soon.
If Christiano starts clinical trials too.
    If not… nothing in 2020 :(

        1. Oh hahahaha shut you got me egghead. Sad thing I actually believed rogaine was coming out with a new treatment. Have more hope in them than anyone else right now

    1. Im using 1mg finasteride + 12.5 Minoxidil + Hairmax lazer = regrowth in the scalp i was totally bald with few hairs in my scalp but i only used this medicines for 3 months now and the results are amazing!! You should give a try using minoxidil 12.5%

      1. Where do you get 12.5 rogaine? I use 5 percent. It’s working great for you because you just started propecia. After about 7 to 10 years you will be in my boat where your body starts to fight back on the meds and they become less effective :( I hope you get more regrowth bud:)

      2. If anyone get the thread of hellouser about congress info in hairlosstalk forum, pls give that link here if possible. I didn’t have access to hairlosstalk forum.

  77. Does the congress state today? Btw, I heard they aren’t allowing it to be recorded, either. So whoever is sent to it, will be vital for information.

    1. HelloUser from HLT forum is going
He’s well prepared it seems, with many interviews already set up and a long list of questions by the forum members.

You can browse the said forum to follow his updates.

  78. You should curb your enthusiasm with these Rux or Tofac a little bit don’t you think?

There’s nothing beyond promise to hold on too. keep an eye on it but give it a break a little.

There’s way a bunch of other treatments that still hold promise. Follica isn’t out of the game yet. Replicel and Shiseido, Histogen, Samumed, Kythera.. a lot of players.. Latest study by L. Garza also very promising.. You’re too obsessed with these Jaks. It works in AA. It’s not the same thing. Once it’s approved to treat AA then you can go and try it but there’s no evidence that it will work the same way to treat AGA. Don’t expect that much, it’s too early.

  79. Let’s see if Hellouser can get some information from Cotsarelis, Christiano and all the others. Maybe he can get them to say something we still don’t know, maybe some good news. Congresses aren’t where I expect the big announcements to come from but who knows… maybe a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel.

  80. Has tsuji started clinical trials? I like Garza too, seems to be very promising. Samumed is still my favorite for latest topical non cell treatment product. I like how quick they move. I hope they show pics of robust hair growth for their phase 2 trials

  81. What is Samumed’s premise? What is the topical supposed to do? I can’t find the information. Is it just an anti-androgen?

  82. After phase II trial completion, samumed has started to next trial that will finish February 2016. They are really going fast. Hopefully we’ll know the phase II results in this congress & it’ll be good I hope.

A Study of SM04554 Applied Topically to the Scalp of Male Subjects With Androgenetic Alopecia Analyzed by Biopsy of the Scalp Prior To and Post Dosing – No Study Results Posted – ClinicalTrials.gov https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02503137?term=Samumed&rank=3

  83. I have faith in samumed as the next better treatment fir hair loss. Won’t be a cure but hopefully a treatment that can grow a Norwood 4 to a 2. Thick regrowth results
