23rd World Congress of Dermatology

The 23rd World Congress of Dermatology starts on June 8, 2015 and will run through June 13, 2015 in Vancouver, Canada. It is run by the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS). The ILDS is an umbrella organisation for professional dermatology organisations of all sizes around the world. You can follow their Twitter account for conference updates.

I was not paying too much attention to this conference before. When I first browsed through their website some time ago, it seemed like most of the subjects would be non-hair related.

However, when I went through their website in more detail today, I noticed that the Congress President was a hair transplant surgeon by the name of Dr. Jerry Shapiro. More importantly, one of the main (plenary) sessions will be presented by the esteemed Dr. Elaine Fuchs, who I have discussed a few times on this blog before. Amond the main sponsors includes L’Oréal and Allergan.

There is a workshop on hair biology on Tuesday that will be led by the renowned Dr. George Cotsarelis, Replicel’s scientist Dr. Kevin McElwee and Dr. Amos Gilhar of Israel. This might end up being the most interesting part of the conference for blog readers.

There is an interesting presentation on the neglected field of ethnic hair disorders by South African professor Nonhlanhla Khumalo. Lebanese doctor Mazen Kurban (who has co-authored a book chapter with Dr. Angela Christiano in the past) will present on genetic hair and nail disorders.

Other presentations of interest include: one on hair disorders; one on hair transplants; one on telogen effluvium; and one on cicatricial alopecias. Several of the laser light therapy related presentations will hopefully also discuss their increase use for regrowing scalp hair. Like FDA cleared devices such as the HairMax Lasercomb for example.

  1. Hi, admin, how are you? I know it has nothing to do with this post but what do you think about histogen? Everybody is saying it’s dead but most of companies always get their trials later than predicted. What is your opinion? I couldn’t find any information about histogen for this year and this is pretty disappointing cause the results looked promising :( I sent them an email but haven’t got any answer.

    Thank you :)

  2. Hey

Histogen isn’t dead. they actually are moving on with it but they were so slow that in all likelihood… a better treatment will come out and it’s probably not worth it for them to release it if it’s not going to be the best treatment… i mean.. replicel looks so good it’s scary.. bimatoprost might be amazing.. SM might be amazing aswell.. piloscopy aswell… lot’s of competition… guys we are lucky enough to be living the time when all these breakthroughs that were discovered in 2005+ are now in trials and on their way… it really does take an average of 15 years for a treatment to come because of trials and regulations.. so when we find the solution to cloning.. it will likely take 10+ to get to market..

  3. Thanks Admin for keep updating the website. This website has become a site that I come and check on daily basis. Even though there haven’t been much progress in terms of find a cure, but with people like Admin who work very hard around the issue concerns thousands and millions, we still have hope.

  4. It would be nice if Dr. George Cotsarelis give us anything new. Follica has stated 2 years ago that they had a Substantial hair growth and were looking for FDA already approved drugs to expedite the process.

Also if Replicel’s scientist Dr. Kevin McElwee provides any updates too. Both of these Researchers should be followed to see if the provide any new insights to what is going on either from Research or Product Development. Thanks.

  5. Good, I’m really tired of seeing in hair loss forums are so many people who do not want a treatment, it’s pathetic … it’s okay, these people suck. As a health professional, I have to say, WE WILL HAVE MORE OF A NEW TREATMENT FOR HAIR LOSS. Safer and more effective than Propecia and Minoxidil. For years, it’s time to change …
    By 2020, 100% secure.

    Greetings.

  6. What do you mean people on forums who do not want a treatment? Maybe what they dont want is a treatment which gives you side effects worse than hair loss ( erectyle disfunction) and yes. By 2020 something Will come out… But will it be too late for many people? Who knows…

And btw.. Im not believing ure a healthcare professional with grammar like that. Bye
