The 10 Best Hair Loss Shampoos

Only a Select few Hair Loss Shampoos

There are thousands of shampoos being sold online, but very few have proven beneficial properties towards scalp hair growth.  Below are ten of the best hair loss shampoos in existence today.  They all contain ingredients that have shown proven benefits to scalp hair. Make sure to read through this whole page of reviews to find the the Best Hair Loss Shampoo out there.

Key Shampoo Ingredients and Characteristics to Look out for

You want to make sure that the shampoo you pick has at least one natural dihydrotestosterone (DHT) reducing ingredient such as saw palmetto.  Antiandrogenic ingredients such as ketoconazole are also invaluable.  However, some shampoos with both he above will dry out your scalp, so you want to experiment with a few.   Most people will benefit from shampoos that have natural moisturizing oils such as argan oil, emu oil, jojoba oil and more.  Biotin and caffeine are also desirable ingredients in any hair loss shampoo.

Shiseido Adenovital Shampoo
The most popular hair loss shampoo in Asia that is manufactured by renowned Japanese cosmetics manufacturer Shiseido (which also happens to be working on a cell based hair loss cure).  More importantly, Adenovital’s key ingredient adenosine has strong scientific backing when it comes to benefiting hair growth.

Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
My favorite shampoo to tackle dry and itchy scalp problems.  Make sure to read my old post on Nizoral. However, do not overdo it!  I try to use this product twice a week at most.  Keep it in your hair for at least several minutes before rinsing it off for best effect.  This product contains 1% ketoconazole, which has anti-fungal as well as anti-androgenic properties. This makes it a top hair loss shampoo for men.

Ultrax Labs Caffeine, Saw Palmetto & Ketoconazole Hair Stimulating Shampoo
An extremely popular product.  There is significant evidence that caffeine and saw palmetto are somewhat beneficial to hair growth.  Saw palmetto blocks the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and is often described as a natural (but weaker) alternative to finasteride.  For more, see my post on natural cures for hair loss.  The Ultrax shampoo product also contains 0.2% ketoconazole, which reduces dandruff and also has some anti-androgenic properties.

Pura D’or Organic Argan Oil Shampoo
This is the bestselling shampoo on Amazon.  The list of ingredients is extremely lengthy and the product claims to have 15 (!) natural DHT blockers.  I do not know which 15, but It does have the most well known natural DHT blocker in saw palmetto.  Additional proven beneficial ingredients include pumpkin seed oil, green tea, niacin and biotin.

Vitamins  Procapil Shampoo
This is a very interesting product that contains Procapil. The ingredient list is extensive and includes many other products that are beneficial to hair such as biotin, olive leaf derived oleanolic acid, and grapefruit derived apigenin.  The product description claims to include a number of DHT blockers too.

Art Naturals Organic Argan Oil Shampoo
Argan oil is derived from the kernels of the argan tree that is endemic to Morocco.  In that country, argan oil has been used for skin and hair problems for centuries.  In the western world, argan oil is now becoming very popular in cosmetic applications.  Art Naturals organic argan oil shampoo also includes a huge list of botanical and herbal products, along with essential oils that will improve the texture of your hair significantly.

Active Wow Argan Oil & Organic Botanicals Shampoo
Yet another argan oil shampoo  infused with various botanicals.  Other ingredients include biotin, caffeine, saw palmetto, nettle, pumpkin seed, keratin and green tea.  All of these have been shown to be beneficial towards scalp hair.

PhytoWorx Organic Shampoo With Plant Stem Cells
An interesting product with the key ingredient being apple plant derived stem cells from Switzerland.  Also included are tea tree, peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary oils.  I doubt the stem cells can do much for your hair, but still worth trying.

Luxtherapy 5-in-1 Shampoo
This product seems too good to be true and I wonder how they can fit so many things into one item.  It includes nourishing essential oils (argan, tea tree, rosemary, cedarwood, and pumpkin seed along with aloe); ketoconazole 0.5%; natural DHT blockers including saw palmetto; a biotin and vitamin complex; and various organic plant extracts.

Wick & Ström Anti Hair Loss Shampoo
This shampoo contains saw palmetto along with a very small 0.01% dose of ketoconazole.  Other ingredients include aloe, biotin and caffeine.  The company that manufactures this product calls itself a Swedish American boutique.

DS Labs Revita Shampoo
A well known and respected brand.  Ingredients that benefit scalp hair include ketoconazole, biotin, caffeine, apple seed extract and apple polyphenols, rooibos tea leaf extract, emu oil, copper peptides, aloe and zinc.

Neugaine Organic Natural DHT Blocker Shampoo
A newer product that supposedly contains a proprietary mix of 17 (!) natural DHT blockers (crucial when it comes to an anti hair loss shampoo for men).  Among these 17 include saw palmetto and beta sitosterol, nettles extract and green tea extract.   Also contains argan oil, castor oil and coconut oil.  Of interest, this shampoo has the herb “He Shou Wu” in it, which in traditional Chinese medicine is thought to help turn grey hair back to black.  You can’t go wrong with this all natural shampoo for hair loss.
