Very Brief Summary of Hair News this Month

Nothing especially significant in recent hair loss related news articles and items of interest.

Keratinocytes and other Hair News

— A new study from Taiwan suggests an improved culturing method to produce trichogenic keratinocytes.

— This BBC radio segment on the extreme measures bald men take might be from last year, but it appeared on my Twitter feed this week. Worth a listen.

— By now, most of us know that our mothers’ fathers are the not the only culprits to blame for our hair loss. Nevertheless, an interesting recent article on the genetics of hair loss. The last part of the article is especially important. I knew about the correlation of baldness with higher rates of heart disease, but did not realize the correlation with higher rates of blood pressure and cholesterol.

I do not find these “higher” rates especially high, but from a scientific perspective, even a 10 percent greater risk is very significant. I do wonder if these studies miss the possibility that a significant portion of balding people just become reclusive and start overeating and not exercising and subsequently get more health issues: i.e., correlation does not imply causation.

— Beware of the numerous gray hair cure supplement scams out there. Also make sure to read my post on the cure for grey hair.

— Over the years, there have been many hair loss forum threads on demodex mites perhaps causing or exacerbating hair loss. I never did much research on this subject. Now I am curious due to this superb recent image-filled BBC article on the mites that are all over our faces.

— While no artificial hair replacement section is in there, an excellent summary on various artificial body part replacements. Scroll all the way down that page. Medical science is steamrolling ahead.

Bionic eyes could give you 3 times better vision than so called 20/20 perfect vision.

  1. The gray hair cure scams are similar to follicept approach. Isn it?

They allegate they are legit with no tests, with unclear testimonials, no scientific tests, etc…

  2. They are conducting public trials on youtube man… They aren’t selling anything if the trial results aren’t positive.. They aaid so themselves..

  3. fillicleman,,, with this type of trials nobody can be sure if the product do work or dont. This kind of trials are not rigurous enough to me. Can lead to confussion, -and to make millions in the meantime-. Are you pretty sure that they arent taking finasteride or minox also? You can say that you trust him because they are scientists and big university… but science is not trust in people, nor faith.
